What I'm reading...the books I took out of the Chicago Public Library today

The Chicago Public Library is fantastic. I thought that after I started using my Kindle Fire that my library visits would slow down, but that hasn't been the case. I simply can't afford to buy every book that I want to read. I keep a constant flow of library books circulating in my apartment. These are my current selections:

Hungry Ghosts: Mao's Secret Famine, by Jasper Becker

The Lifeboat: A Novel, by Charlotte Rogan

I took this shot in October of 2005. That was the year that the White Sox won the World Series, when Barack Obama was a U.S. Senator from Illinois. I went to the ticker-tape parade that Chicago held to honor the White Sox victory. It got a little too crowded for me, so I took a side street and Barack Obama happened to be walking by at the same time. There was a woman next to me urging him to run for president; he broke into his famous smile when she said that.
